Scholarship Basics

Scholarships are gifts to help pay for college tuition and fees and they do not need to be repaid. Many different organizations offer scholarships, such as schools, employers, individuals, private companies, non-profit organizations, community organizations, religious groups, social organizations, and so on.

When applying for a scholarship, keep in mind that you NEVER have to pay for the application (including the FAFSA). Legit scholarship applications do not require a fee to apply. Most scholarships are merit-based, which means that you have to meet a certain set of criteria to be eligible for the scholarship.
